Police Chief Of Cincinnati Fired For Inability To Lead, Creating Hostile Work Environment And Taking Freebies

Cincinnati has fired its police chief of only two years after reports of low morale and unprofessional behavior reached city officials, according to WTVQ.

Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black fired Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell on Wednesday, creating a five page report detailing instances of poor conduct and leadership.

In the report, Black accuses Blackwell of attacking employees verbally, obsessing over his own status within the media and creating a hostile work environment, according to CNN.

"Mr. Blackwell has not provided the necessary leadership to ensure a cohesive operating environment within the department," said Black.

In the report, Black also said the chief neglected the chain of command, showed favoritism, alienated team members and was generally unavailable during times of public safety, according to USA Today.

There are also claims that he used his position to try and extract free goods, such as tickets to sporting events. He was also given the nickname, "Ghost," for his ability to not be available during long periods, though Blackwell claims to have only used eight vacation days during his stint of employment with Cincinnati.

Blackwell has since publicly refuted the claims and is currently speaking with his attorneys.

"In time, people will see the truth, hopefully sooner rather than later," said Blackwell. "The powers that be did not value the way I policed."
