Sara Bareilles Discusses Similarities Between 'Brave' And Katy Perry's 'Roar,' 'I Don't Feel Like Anything Was Taken From Me Artistically' (LISTEN)

Over the summer, singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles came out with a song titled "Brave." Soon after, Katy Perry came out with her hit single "Roar," which fans quickly noticed sounded strikingly similar to Bareilles' latest song. In a recent interview, she decided to clear the air about how she feels about Katy Perry's chart-topping song.

"I was stoked. I was like, 'Great,'" Bareilles said in an interview with EOnline. "I was like, 'You guys want to get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great.'"

Perry's song is currently at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 while Bareilles' song is at No. 31. Many fans have even gone as far as to layer both songs over each other in order to hear the similarities.

However, despite her song coming out in April and Perry's "Roar" coming out in August, Bareilles seems fine with both song's success.

"I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically," she explained. "I wasn't the one having any problems with it."

The two artists are actually friends and have no trouble laughing over the theft rumors.

"I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it," she said. "I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment.

"We actually talked about it," she added. "We're like 'Should we just work on a mash-up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?"

Despite coming out and saying that there is no bad blood between the two artist for the similar songs of the summer, fans are still upset at Perry and believe her hit "Roar" shouldn't be getting more attention and love because it is, essentially, the same song with the same message.

Give both songs a listen below and tell us what you think. Is "Roar" an intentional rip off or just a happy conscience?
