The U.S. News and World Report has released their list of the yearly rankings of the colleges in the country.
The "Best Colleges" list includes an evaluation of over 1,800 established colleges and universities all over the nation. The ranking was determined through 16 different ways of measuring academic quality, but focused more on retention rates and graduation. The selection also verified the endowment, student selectivity and faculty resources, according to the International Business Times.
After all these measures were followed, Princeton University was able to reach the top spot under the Best National University Category. Topping the list for Best National Liberal Arts College is Williams College. University of California, Berkeley ranks first on the list of Best Public Schools.
"To find the best fit, students should consider a range of factors, from financial aid offerings and location to campus size and majors," Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer for the website, said in a statement, TIME reported. "The process can be overwhelming, but our rankings and advice content are a great place to start."
"We are the only organization that has been ranking schools for over three decades," Robert Morse, the chief data strategist for U.S. News, said. "Over that time we have improved our information and sharpened our methodology's focus, with one of the biggest updates being a greater consideration of output measurements."
There is a new category included in the 2016 ranking, which is the Most Innovative Schools. This category highlights schools that have advanced innovations when it comes to campus life, curriculum, the school's facility, faculty and students based on feedback from school presidents and deans, according to U.S. News and World Report.
Universities and colleges tweeted their responses regarding the results.
