Author Graham Hancock is saying that archaeological evidence points to advanced civilizations being nearly wiped out centuries ago, an event that he believes will occur again, according to Daily Mail UK.
Graham believes that a giant comet could hit Earth within 20 years, devastating the world with massive floods and fire. There is also the belief that ancient people have foreseen this tragedy and have left warnings in the form of generational tales and biblical stories.
His theories come on the heels of the release of his new book, "Magicians of Gods."
"These Magicians left a message for us - not a metaphorical, spiritual message, but a direct and urgent warning," said Graham. "What happened before can happen again. What destroyed their world can destroy ours."
Others within the scientific community have mirrored his theories, like astronomer Bill Napier and astrophysicist Victor Clube, who believe that the world is in danger of being hit by an "unseen comet," according to Yahoo News UK.
Graham has sold millions of copies of his books, but there are many within the academic and scientific field who simply do not believe his claims of doom and destruction, according to the Huffington Post UK.
"My job is to present a thoroughly argued alternative view of history..." said Graham.
