A non-profit organization that supports the rights of members of the LGBT community constructed a billboard with a message directed at Rowan County, Ky. clerk Kim Davis.
Planting Peace erected the billboard in Davis' hometown, which read: "Dear Kim Davis, The fact that you can't sell your daughter for three goats and a cow means we've already redefined marriage," and it was accompanied by images of a cow and three goats.
Aaron Jackson, the president of Planting Peace, explained that the purpose of creating the billboard was to "expose how the anti-LGBT movement is selective in what rules to follow and how they choose to define 'traditional' institutions or values," according to USA Today.
Davis came under fire for repeatedly refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples based on her religious beliefs, even though the Supreme Court had declared that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states.
Davis eventually landed in jail on Sept. 4 for defying a court order, and same-sex couples ended up getting licenses to get married while she was in prison.
Davis was released on Sept. 8 after an order from a U.S. District Judge after the judge obtained a status report from the same-sex couples who filed a lawsuit against her.
U.S. District Judge David Bunning expressed satisfaction in the order that Davis' office was "fulfilling its obligation to issue marriage licenses to all legally eligible couples," HNGN previously reported.
