Police authorities are probing an incident that took place at the privately owned Cimarron Correctional Facility in Cushing, Okla., leaving three inmates dead and five others injured, according to The International Business Times.
The jail staff at the private correctional facility had ceased an "inmate disturbance" at around 4:40 p.m. The five who were injured were sent to a local hospital for treatment, KOTV News on 6 reported.
The disturbance was restricted in a single housing hull, and it lasted for about 40 minutes. The facility was then placed on lockdown status, where management and law enforcement officers conducted a welfare check on the remaining inmates.
The names of the three inmates who died during the disturbance were not released to the public. Additionally, no prison staffers were injured during the incident, according to FOX 23.
The Cimarron Correctional Facility, owned privately by the Corrections Corporation of America, can house up to 1,720 inmates, predominantly medium and maximum security males for the state Department of Corrections.
