Moses Malone Dies At Age 60

Pro Basketball Hall of Famer and three time NBA MVP Moses Malone has passed away at the age of 60.

Malone was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001 and is widely considered one of the best players in NBA history. Malone is currently ranked fifth on the all-time rebounds list and eighth on the all-time points list.

Malone won three MVP awards in his NBA career, two with the Houston Rockets and one with the Philadelphia 76ers. Malone also led the 76ers to the NBA Championship in 1983 where he was named Finals MVP. For his NBA career the 6 foot-10 center averaged 20.6 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in 19 seasons.

Malone was given the nickname "Chairman of the Boards" due to his tremendous rebounding ability and he was the first player ever to go straight from high school to play professional basketball. After high school Malone signed with the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association in 1974. Malone spent two seasons in the ABA until the merger in 1976.

In his NBA career Malone played for seven different teams including Houston, Philadelphia, the Atlanta Hawks, the Washington Bullets, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Buffalo Braves and finishing his career with the San Antonio Spurs. Malone had his number 24 jersey retired by the Rockets after a tremendous six year stint with them including two league MVP awards.
