Two planes got dangerously close to one another at Los Angeles International Airport Sunday evening, causing the wings to clip while on the ground, according to officials.
LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles revealed that the incident occurred at 7:50 p.m., as both aircraft were moving through an alleyway between terminals six and seven, according to NBC Southern California.
The two planes involved in the incident were headed in different directions, with one departing and the other arriving, reported ABC News. The arriving flight was United Airlines Flight 1199, which had come from New Jersey, while the departing flight, Alaskan Flight 543, was en route to Portland.
United Flight 1199 was carrying 169 passengers with six crew members on board, while Alaskan Flight 543, which also had six crew members, was carrying 182 passengers, according to KTLA 5.
No injuries were reported from either flight.
Following the crash, flight crews observed visible damage to both aircraft and opted to move each of them to hangars.
An investigation is now underway to assess the true extent of the damage, as well as the cause of the incident.
