Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is expected to have surgery for a broken foot and could miss four to six weeks, according to Rob Phillips of DallasCowboys.com.
The Cowboys came back to win a tight game against the New York Giants Sunday night 27-26. Bryant was not on the field in the comeback win, as his injury occurred earlier in the second half.
"That's a tough loss. You can't replace Dez Bryant," said quarterback Tony Romo, via DallasCowboys.com. "I hurt for him right now because I know how much he loves to play this game. We'll have to reassess that and figure out where to put guys and try and help."
Bryant had five catches for 48 yards against the Giants, but the Cowboys will miss more than his catching abilities. Last night the Cowboys used Bryant in many different roles, including lead blocker on wide receiver screens. Bryant is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, which makes him a powerful blocker on smaller corners.
The Cowboys will clearly miss Bryant's production. Last season he had 88 receptions for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns. Bryant is the number one weapon for the Cowboys, and that is why they signed him to a five-year, $70 million contract.
The Cowboys will look to Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and Lance Dunbar to pick up their numbers for the offense to keep rolling. Williams is likely to be Romo's top target outside Jason Witten, and Williams had five catches for 60 yards against the Giants.
"No one's going to be Dez Bryant, but the guys can do what they do well and it's my job to help that whole situation," said Romo, via DallasCowboys.com.
The Cowboys play the Eagles next week, and without Bryant it will look to be a difficult matchup against their NFC East rival.
