South West Trains announced an additional 24 stations that have been re-accredited with secure station status and assured passengers safety and security, according to a latest press release.
South West Trains continue to provide safety and security to passengers with an additional 24 train stations being re-accredited with secure stations scheme. The scheme is nationally operated by the British Transport Police accompanied by the Department for Transport. The national scheme was initiated to ensure safety of all passengers and to prevent crime and anti-social behavior.
The 24 stations that were officially recognized under the secure stations scheme include: Ash Vale, Camberley, Chertsey, Claygate, Earley, Gillingham (Dorset), Hampton, Hampton Wick, Hersham, Hook, Liphook, London Road Guildford, Martins Heron, Motspur Park, New Milton, Oxshott, Poole, Queenstown Road Battersea, Shepperton, Sunbury, Sunningdale, Swanwick, Thames Ditton, Virginia Water and Weymouth, according to the press release.
The British Transport Police and Department for Transport can accredit a station on the basis of the design and management of the station, management of criminal activity and passengers' observation of the security at the station.
"It's great news that these additional 24 stations have been re-accredited and we're pleased that so many passengers can continue to enjoy a safe journey with us," said Matthew Winnie, head of security and revenue protection for South West Trains - Network Rail Alliance. "It's even more pleasing that our passengers are noticing the improvements we are making.
The most recent independent national passenger survey demonstrated that passenger satisfaction with personal security has increased by 4% since the previous survey. We will continue to work with the British Transport Police to make sure our stations and train services are as safe and secure as possible for the millions of passengers who use them every year," he said.
