Police in New Hampshire are on the search for an emu that has continued to wander around the town of Bow since it was spotted by several locals Saturday morning.
"Over the last two days we have had several reports of an emu wandering around town," Bow police said in a Facebook post Sunday, according to CBS Boston.
Officials say there have been reported sightings of the emu on Hunter Drive, Brown Hill and Hampshire Hills.
One local, Dave Moland, lives on Hampshire Hills Road and has reportedly seen many types of wildlife in his neighborhood, but never an emu.
"I've seen deer, fox, moose, turkey, porcupines," but not an emu, Moland said, according to ABC's Portland affiliate WMTW. "Never in my life. Not even in the zoo. I thought I'd have to go to Australia to see that. Didn't think I'd see it here."
Police Sgt. Art Merrigan said authorities have checked with local emu owners, but none of them have any of their emus missing. He noted that since his department is not equipped to catch the emu, it called a wildlife rehabilitator to assist in the avian's capture.
Merrigan also mentioned that the emu poses no threat to people, reported The Seattle Times. He does note, however, that it might get hit by a car.
"It comes to the edge of the road apparently and then wanders back into the woods," he said.
He urges that if anyone sees the emu not to go near it and to contact police at 603-228-0511.
