Caitlyn Jenner On Gay Marriage: 'Everyone Should Be Able to Marry the Person They Love'

It's been a week since, Caitlyn Jenner shocked Ellen DeGeneres and the nation when she admitted that she wasn't a supporter of gay marriage.

During an appearance on last Tuesday's pre-taped season premiere of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 65-year-old reality TV star said she still had traditional views about marriage, which meant marriage between a man and woman.

"I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago or 20 years ago, whatever it was, when the whole gay marriage issue [first] came up, at first I was not for it," she told DeGeneres. "I thought, I'm a traditionalist. I'm older than most people in the audience. I kind of like tradition, and it's always been between a man and a woman. And I'm thinking, I don't quite get it."

However, Jenner also said that her perspective on same-sex marriage has started to change, explaining that "as time has gone on, I think, like a lot of people on this issue have really changed you're thinking here to 'I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness.' You know, that's not my job. OK. If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."

As expected, Jenner received some negative backlash from individuals who found her views on marriage hypocritical, considering she has become overly popular for transgender lifestyle.

In a new blog post titled "What I've Learned," the "I Am Cait" star is clarifying her comments on same-sex marriage, explaining that her own transition from man to woman allowed her to better understand discrimination.

"Like many people, there was a time when I didn't realize how important it is for gay couples to have the right to get married. But after hearing from my gay friends and learning more about the hardships they faced because of discrimination, it became clear to me that everyone should be able to marry the person they love. I can only hope that by sharing my story, there's someone out there whose mind has been changed about trans people," Jenner began on her blog.

Jenner, who considers herself a Republican, has been documenting her transition on her E! reality series, which recently aired its emotional first season finale.

"Because regardless of whether you are transgender or not, we all have stuff to deal with in our lives," Kris Jenner's ex-partner said. "To have the courage to overcome obstacles and be your authentic self is an amazing process to go through. I want you to believe in yourself and know that you can deal with it. You can be okay."

Jenner concluded her post, explaining that she wants to "grow as a person." Adding, "In so many ways I feel like I'm a teenage girl discovering herself! I'm still trying to figure out what it means to be a woman and I will continue that process. Because you know what? It's a lot of fun!"
