Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Breshad Perriman has been progressing with his knee injury and is expected to be back by October, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.
Perriman was a first round pick by the Ravens and was supposed to fill the hole left by the departure of Torrey Smith. The Ravens offense looked weak on Sunday against the Denver Broncos, and in particular their passing offense looked dreadful. Quarterback Joe Flacco threw for 117 yards and had two interceptions in the 19-13 loss.
Marlon Brown was the Ravens leading receiver with 25 yards on two catches. The Ravens look desperate to get the pass offense going again, but Perriman still needs more time to recover. Steve Smith Sr. caught two passes for 13 yards on Sunday, and will likely be heavily covered until Perriman comes back. With Perriman back on the field, coverage could open up for other receivers and tight ends.
In Perriman's junior season at Central Florida he was dominant. Perriman recorded 50 receptions and 1,044 yards with nine touchdowns his junior year. Perriman is listed at 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds, which makes him a big target in the redzone.
When Flacco knew he wouldn't have Perriman back in preseason, he said, "I wish we had him out. I think he's an awesome talent and he's going to help us out a lot," according to the Baltimore Sun. Without Perriman, second round pick Maxx Williams will need to get involved in this offense fast. Last week Williams had one catch for 15 yards, but head coach John Harbaugh is likely to want more production out of his new tight end.
Perriman will reportedly be back by October, but the Ravens need help with the pass offense soon or they might find themselves in a hole in the AFC North.
