Texas A&M (2-1) looks to bounce back after losing to Alabama last week. In the loss, Manziel turned in the second-best performance in SEC history with 562 total yards, ESPN reports. Despite the narrow 49-42 loss, Manziel knows there's a lot more football to be played.
"This isn't the end of our season," Manziel said, via ESPN. "This wasn't the Super Bowl. This wasn't the last game of the season ... you never know how things will turn out. All we can do is take care of ourselves and continue to get better as a team."
One area of concern for the Aggies is its defense. In three games, A&M has given up averages of 36.0 points and 489.0 yards per game. Still, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin isn't worried.
"We've got to get some things shored up in our front defensively," Sumlin said. "We'll be fine schematically. We've got to get our guys playing a little better."
A&M should get a boost once linebacker Steven Jenkins, defensive end Gavin Stansbury and cornerbacks De'Vante Harris and Deshazor Everett get acclimated to the defense.
"I feel like we communicated well. We just have to have better eyes and we just have to fill our gaps better," Aggies defensive back Toney Hurd said. "That was actually the first game (Alabama) that the starting 11 on defense played together.
"... Our confidence right now is not at an all-time high, but each and every week it will get greater as we play together more and more."
SMU (1-1) will look for the upset on Saturday behind the arm of quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who's led the offense to an average of 475.5 yards per game. Despite throwing for 352.5 yards per game, Gilbert has thrown only one touchdown.
The Aggies are the favorite to win. Line: A&M -27.5. Over/Under: 78.5.
