MLS NEWS: Kei Kamara Wins Player Of The Week Honors

Kei Kamara has won his third MLS Player of the Week award after reaching 20 goals on the season last weekend, according to MLSSoccer.com. The Columbus Crew forward leads the league in scoring and is the first name on MLS experts' MVP voting cards.

Kamara tallied two goals against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, making his selection for the award an easy choice. The Columbus forward is the 16th player in MLS history to record 20-plus goals in a season. Kamara also is tied with Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco and New York Red Bull Bradley Wright-Phillips with winning MLS Player of the Week three times this season.

The race for MLS MVP is heating up, but after another dominating performance from Kamara, there is little talk of others taking the award away from him. Even with MLS loving bigger-named players, Kamara is the exception to the rule and continues to make the Crew relevant in the Eastern Conference.

Columbus made an early exit from the 2014 MLS Playoffs after getting pounded by the New England Revolution in the Conference semifinals. Kamara is the best player in MLS right now, and with only five games remaining, there is a great chance that Columbus claims a top spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
