Wilson Sporting Goods recently released the Wilson X Connected Basketball, a smart basketball with a built-in sensor to track your baskets, according to Wired. The sensor runs on heavily tested algorithms and possesses a battery that lasts approximately 100,000 shots, which equates to roughly two years of heavy usage.
"Since 2005, there's been a lot of demand for sensors in balls across sports," said Bob Thurman, head of Wilson Labs. "We wanted to reach the masses with our ball."
As the official basketball supplier of the NCAA, the company takes the game seriously and plans to reward users with high skill levels with free product replacements to encourage them to up their game, according to Digital Trends.
"We will celebrate any shooter who shoots 100,000 shots," said Thurman. "They can contact Wilson about getting a replacement ball if the battery runs out after that milestone. That's a lot of shots and we'd love to see the product used like that."
The product doesn't require any additional attachments to work - all you need is a smartphone and a 10-foot hoop and you're ready to hit the net, according to CNET.
The Wilson X Connected Basketball is now available in 29.5 and 28.5 inch sizes on the official Wilson website for a price tag of $200.
