Gayle Newland, a 25-year-old has been found guilty of sexual assault after allegedly impersonating a man. The victim states that she was completely unaware Newland was a women and is not happy about what occurred.
"She has been extremely upset by what has happened and there is no doubt there will be a lasting psychological impact on her," according to Det. Insp. Clare Coleman of Cheshire Constabulary.
The victim alleges Newland pretended to be someone else in an effort to coerce her into sex. She claims that Newland used a prosthetic penis and bandaged her breast to appear as a man. The two met on popular social media site Facebook, where they eventually exchanged numbers. Newland used the alias of "Kye" while speaking with the victim. After speaking on the phone frequently the two agreed to meet up and have sex.
Gayle claims that the victim was aware she was a woman and the two were simply role playing.
"How can you send me down for something I have not done," she shouted at the judge according to BBC News.
The two were around each other very often after their initial meeting. During sex the victim alleges Gayle made her wear a blind fold saying she wanted to hide embarrassing scars. Eventually Gayle removed the blindfold and saw a woman.
"The defendant spent 'hundreds' of hours talking on the telephone to her friend as Kye and more than 100 hours in each other's company in hotels and the complainant's flat," according to The Telegraph.
Gayle has been released on bail and is awaiting sentencing.
