Cardinals Rashad Johnson Loses Part Of Finger During Saints Game, Bone Exposed & Finger Found In Glove

Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson lost part of his finger on Sunday during the team's 31-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Johnson found his fingertip still in his glove, leading doctors to shave down his finger to the first knuckle, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.

The accident appeared to occur when Johnson tackled Saints running back Darren Sproles during a first-half punt return. Johnson took his glove off and discovered the top part of his left middle finger still lodged in the glove, according to Somers. The bone of the finger was exposed, and Johnson underwent surgery on Sunday.

"(Doctors) shaved bone on Johnson's finger and repaired (it). Lost about down to first knuckle," Somers tweeted on Monday.

It's uncertain how the part of the finger to broke off, but Somers speculates it "might have smashed in the ground."

Paul Pabst of the Dan Patrick Show reached out to Johnson on Twitter and confirmed the injury.

Johnson, 27, had three tackles in the game. It's uncertain how much time, if any, the 2009 third-round pick will miss. He has 146 tackles, one fumble and three interceptions in his five-year NFL career.
