One of five cities will host the 2024 Olympics, according to Inquisitr. Los Angeles, Budapest, Hungary, Hamburg, Germany, Paris and Rome are all on the short list of candidates.
The International Olympic Committee announced its finalists Wednesday. The locations were described as "outstanding and highly-qualified candidate cites," said committee president Thomas Bach.
To keep costs down for all of these cities, Bach created the "Olympic Agenda 2020" program. This is designed to keep hosting costs down and provide the host city with more than $1.5 billion, reported Inquisitr.
The final host city won't be decided until September 2017, when voting will be held in Lima, Peru.
Only two cities were left in the running when the Olympic Committee voted on the 2022 host city for the Olympic Games: Beijing, China, and Almaty, Kazakhstan. Beijing won the July vote, according to Fox News.
Los Angeles hosted the games in 1932 and 1984. Paris hosted the Olympics twice, but has not had it back since 1924. Rome last hosted in 1960. Hamburg has never hosted the Olympic Games, according to the Miami Herald.
"This is a competition about quality, not quantity," said Bach.
