A Georgia man spelled his marriage proposal out in the stars, but the proposal was far from easy.
Alan Gilbert, 23, knew he wanted to do something special when he asked his girlfriend, Krystal Sanderson, to marry him. He decided on popping the question at the Mark Smith Planetarium show at the Museum of Arts & Sciences, the Telegraph reported.
"The main thing is, Krystal and I spent a lot of time looking at the stars," Smith told the Telegraph. "They were always one of those moments where we could talk about anything we wanted to."
"One of our first dates was under the stars," he said.
Gilbert had trouble getting his beloved, who was preparing for several nursing exams, to the planetarium. She said she was too busy to use the second of the two free museum tickets the hopeful groom had said he acquired. Gilbert tried to text back that he was "adamant" she come to the show.
Then to make things even better, Gilbert's phone died right as he sent the crucial message.
"I wasn't sure it went through," he told the Telegraph.
Gilbert did manage to convince Sanderson to come to the museum, but she wanted to see an earlier showing of the 30-minute planetarium presentation about dinosaurs. It was essential that they saw the 4 p.m., because the proposal was set up only in that showing.
Gilbert was finally able to persuade his girlfriend to see the late afternoon showing.
"The movie, the documentary, was the longest 30 minutes of my life," Gilbert said.
When the proposal finally did pop up, it took Sanders a minute to realize what was happening.
"I was so shocked when I saw my name," she said. "It was like, 'Oh my goodness!' ''
The entire planetarium audience broke out into applause after she said "yes."
This was the second proposal that has taken place at the newly-renovated planetarium.
