With iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus pre-orders reaching record numbers, two men in China have taken to extreme lengths in order to acquire Apple's brand new flagship units, attempting to sell their kidneys on the black market in order to raise money for Apple's new phones.
The incident was made public when Wu, one of the men who attempted the risky procedure, reported a missing person's case to police in Nanjing, eastern China. His friend, Huang, had been missing after a botched organ sale, according to the Daily Mail.
The men had been desperate to get their hands on Apple's new flagship unit, the iPhone 6s, and had pre-ordered the units. However, they soon found out that they did not have enough money to afford the new phone.
Huang then told his friend about a new trend in the country, which involved selling organs for iPhones. After searching online and through Chinese social networking sites, they eventually found a networking group which stated that a kidney could sell for about 100,000 Yuan (about $15,700) to 200,000 Yuan (about $31,400).
The men then contacted an agent, who set up a meeting and told the men to have themselves checked at a hospital. However, the man never showed up for the meeting, reported The Independent.
Wu then reconsidered and decided against the sale. His friend Huang, however, was determined to sell his kidney for an iPhone 6s. When Wu called the police to intervene, Huang ran away from his friend and has not been seen since.
Despite the efforts of police to locate the Apple fan, Huang has proven elusive. It is suspected that he has turned off his mobile phone.
