‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 RUMORS: Daryl Dixon Bit By Zombie?

Warning: Comic spoilers for "The Walking Dead"

You can keep your bearded, gun-toting Rick Grimes and you Katana-wielding Michonne. We don't care that Sasha can plug a walker through the eye from 100 yards away. It doesn't matter that Carl...does Carl things. Daryl Dixon is undisputedly the most popular character on AMC's smash hit "The Walking Dead." The man has an online fan club whose slogan is, "If Daryl dies, we riot!" for crying out loud.

Well, here's to hoping we don't have to break out the riot gear.

People magazine just released a handful of exclusive season 6 photos, and one of them shows a lost-in-thought Daryl with a visibly wounded and bleeding left hand. Is it possible that a Walker got their teeth into everyone's favorite crossbow expert? Maybe.

Loyal readers of "The Walking Dead" comic will remember that in Issue 28, Rick Grimes has his hand cut off by the Governor (ouch). While in the television series, the Governor has come and gone whilst Rick's hand remains attached to his arm, showrunner Scott Gimple and creator Robert Kirkman have been known to switch out plot elements for different characters. Could the duo reassign that story line to Daryl, whose brother cut off his own hand to survive earlier in the series? It would be a poetic sort of parallel, that's for sure.

Speculation regarding the fate of Norman Reedus' fan-favorite character has run rampant this year, with some fans looking for clues in the actor's personal life. But fears about his demise go beyond just off-screen actions. Reports of mysterious flashback sequences and ominous scenes have suggested that Daryl could find himself in some serious trouble in season six.

Does any of this definitively mean he's going to get bit? Absolutely not. But as die-hard fans, it's fair for us to share our concern.

Season six of "The Walking Dead" will debut on Oct. 11.
