Joey Meek: Dylan Roof's Friend Indicted For Lying, Withholding Information About Charleston Shooting

A friend of Dylan Roof, the man accused of killing nine black parishioners in a Charleston church, was indicted Friday and charged with lying to federal agents and withholding information regarding the shooting, according to KATV.

Joey Meek, friend of Roof, allegedly knew that Roof was planning a mass shooting for June 17 but did nothing, nor said anything, according to the Denver Post.

It is also believed that Meek intentionally lied when he was questioned by authorities.

Meek is on record telling news outlets that Roof would stay over at his mobile home sometimes and make negative comments about people of color when he got drunk, saying things like "blacks are taking over the world" and that "someone needed to do something about it for the white race," according to Seattle PI.

Meek went on to say that during Roof's drunken rants, he took the .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, that he purchased with birthday money from parents, away from Roof, but returned it soon after.

Earlier this year, Meek pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle and was on probation at the time of his arrest.

The 21-year-old has pled not guilty to the current charges of lying and withholding information.

If found guilty, Meek could serve up to eight years total for his crimes.
