Gaza Rockets Hit South Israel, Air Force Warplanes Strike North Gaza In Retaliation

Israel's Air Force attacked several locations in the Gaza Strip early Saturday, reportedly in retaliation to an earlier rocket firing assault from Gaza on south Israel.

The Israel's Defence Forces (IDF) said that the warplanes have targeted a Hamas training facility in the northern Gaza Strip, according to Jerusalem Post.

Three rockets were fired Friday night from Gaza into southern Israeli towns of Sderot and Ashkelon. The Air Force carried out the airstrikes early Saturday in retaliation.

Israel's Iron Dome missile defence system reportedly shot down one of the rockets fired by Hamas, according to Middle East Eye.

An Islamic State affiliated Salafist group, Sheikh Omar Hadid Brigade, claimed the responsibility for the attacks, reported i24news.

"Moments ago, sirens sounded in Sderot and the Sha'ar Hanegev regional council as a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip and hit southern Israel, landing in the Sderot area," IDF said in a statement, according to Xinhua.

"We will not tolerate rocket fire at Israeli territory. The terrorist group Hamas is the sovereign, and it carries the responsibility," IDF said, according to Haaretz.

Palestinians have recently clashed with Israeli security forces at Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, as HNGN previously reported. The holy site in Jerusalem's Old City is known to Jews as the Temple Mount and as the Noble Sanctuary to Muslims.
