As fans continue to wait on the highly anticipated fourth season of HBO's hit show, "Game of Thrones," the cast continued to tease viewers on what to expect from the adapted second half of George R.R. Martin's "A Storm of Swords" on the red carpet at the 2013 Emmy Awards, UPI.com reports.
Even though the cast only took away two awards out of a whopping 17 nominations, including two technical arts Emmys (one for non-prosthetic make-up and one for outstanding special visual effects), stars Peter Dinklage, Kit Harrington and Lena Headey were more than happy to share some insider news on season 4.
"I'm just going to say: The stakes are higher than they ever have been," said Headey, who plays the ruthless and cunning Cersei Lannister. "And it's getting better and better and better." Headey preferred to remain vague on the details of what we can expect next, though avid readers of the source material, Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, will have a good idea of what the Queen Regent will be dealing with this season, and things will certainly be getting pretty grim.
Despite the sibling bonding that was happening slowly but surely at the end of season 3 between Cersei and Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), Headey spilled that that will definitely be ending very soon.
"That's pretty much gone, any sense of that," she said. "It's pretty effed up."
Dinklage expanded on his good friend Headey's comments, adding that "anybody who's read the books know that that relationship disintegrates quickly, but there's a lot of fun in that."
As for the disconcerting marriage of his character Tyrion to 14-year-old Sansa Stark (played by 17-year-old actress, Sophie Turner), Dinklage maintained that "it's respectful" and "not filled with passion."
"The opportunity to work with Sophie Turner who plays Sansa, I'm working with her a great deal and I love every minute of that," he said. "She's incredible."
As for the fate of Jon Snow, we last saw him riddled with arrows from his scorned lover, wildling woman Ygritte. He made it back home to Castle Black, though he didn't seem to be in the best condition. Will he and Ygritte make amends?
"Poor old Jon, he's just not very lucky with love," Harrington said. "I think he might just have to give up."
Harrington also warned that things will continue to stay dark in the upcoming season, as the producers plan on topping the infamous "Red Wedding" with even more grisly, disturbing deaths, the actor hinting at another shocking wedding soon to come.
"Really big shock deaths," confirmed Harrington. "And more fighting than there's ever been. I don't know if [the next big wedding] could be as bloody as the last one. But it is quite eventful."
Season 4 of "Game of Thrones" will air on HBO this coming spring.
