NBC has confirmed that Taran Killam has been chosen to play former "Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump on the upcoming 41st season of "Saturday Night Live," according to Deadline. A number of current "Saturday Night Live" cast members auditioned for the presidential candidate's role, but Killam ultimately got the coveted part.
SNL's announcer Darrell Hammond, who played Donald Trump in previous sketches, was not even in consideration for reprising his Trump impersonation and was not among those who auditioned for the part. He will however repeat his iconic Bill Clinton impression on the show and is likely to make several appearances with Hillary Clinton continuing her presidential run, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Killam's other television credits include stints on "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Awesomes." "Saturday Night Live" is slated to premiere on Oct. 3 with host and musical guest Miley Cyrus.
Former SNL cast member Jimmy Fallon recently played Trump on a "Tonight Show" skit, interviewing the real Donald Trump, as HNGN previously reported.
