Bad news fantasy owners, Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman has fractured his ribs, the team announced on Monday. Coleman is expected to miss at least "a couple weeks" and perhaps more, depending on his "pain threshold," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Coleman, the Falcons third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Indiana, had a very promising opening to his professional football career, showing burst and toughness to the tune of 29 rushes, one touchdown and 112-yards over the first two weeks. Coleman seemed to be stating his case to remain ahead of Devonta Freeman on the Falcons depth chart with his play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week One and through the first quarter against the New York Giants in Week Two, but a rib injury in the second quarter against New York saw Coleman carted off. He would not return to the game.
With the news that Coleman will be sidelined for the next few weeks, fantasy owners who don't already own Devonta Freeman will scramble to pick up options that could replace the talented young ballcarrier. Seattle backup Fred Jackson or New Orleans third-down back Khyri Robinson could be good options. Cardinals rookie David Johnson would be a nice addition as well, but chances are he's already been snatched up after his first promising couple of weeks.
