NFL RUMORS: Saints' Drew Brees May Play Against Carolina Panthers

New Orleans Saints fans and hopeful fantasy owners everywhere were likely frustrated to learn of a recent report suggesting that quarterback Drew Brees was in danger of missing "several games." Ian Rapoport of NFL.com revealed this rankling little tidbit on Monday afternoon, suggesting that a shoulder injury would put Brees on the shelf for the next game and potentially more. Now though, a report from Ed Werder of ESPN, published early Tuesday, suggests that there is at least a "reasonable possibility" that Brees plays against the Carolina Panthers in Week Three.

Mortensen reported late Monday that Brees' MRI revealed a bruised rotator cuff. Because it wasn't torn the Saints signal-caller was then planning to head to see Dr. James Andrews to receive a second opinion on the injury. Per Mortensen's Tuesday report, Andrews told Brees to "rehab hard" in the hopes of potentially suiting up against the Panthers.

While "reasonable possibility" leaves a lot of wiggle room, the Saints were adamant in the wake of the original report that Brees wouldn't miss that much time, with head coach Sean Payton even going so far as to suggest, while on WWL-AM in New Orleans that it was "inaccurate."

Brees has struggled thus far this season and the Saints are now in an 0-2 hole. If they're to salvage the 2015 season they'll need Brees on the field and performing like his old self. Which raises the question - if he really is dealing with a fairly significant shoulder injury, are they better off allowing him to heal and hoping he'll return to form later in the season, or pushing him to return as quickly as possible in an effort to put up a couple of tallies in the 'W' column?
