Arsenal will be without defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin after he sustained a knee injury against Chelsea, according to Arsenal's website. The news comes before the Capital One Cup third-round match against Tottenham Hotspur.
The official injury is being listed as a hyper-extended knee, according to Bleacher Report. It's an injury that typically can hold a player out for a few weeks, however, Coquelin is as strong as they come and should make a speedy recovery.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke to the media about the injury to Coquelin.
"His knee is swollen and he is being assessed, but we hope it is just a short-term problem," said Wenger.
That is good news for Gunners fans, as knee injuries have become a theme for many clubs this season. When a players suffer a problem with their knee, it usually keeps them out for months and often requires surgery. Thankfully, that does not appear to be the case for Coquelin.
Missing a player with such strength, power and speed from the midfield area will hurt Arsenal. However, there is enough talent still healthy for Wenger to choose from that the club should not suffer dramatically.
