Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal is rumored to be the replacement for a struggling Branislav Ivanovic at Chelsea, according to the Daily Star. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has not been pleased with the efforts of Ivanovic as of late and could replace him with Carvajal as early as January.
Fans of Madrid know that Carvajal signed a new contract over the summer that ties him to the club until 2020, according to Bleacher Report. However, Chelsea is prepared to spend 14 million pounds for the defender, an offer that would be hard to refuse for Los Blancos.
The Spanish defender is young, talented and full of power. A move to Chelsea would continue the belief that Mourinho is slowly weakening Madrid and Barcelona with his signings, making the road to a UEFA Champions League title much easier. However, while each club maintains players like Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there will always be a fighting chance for the Spanish giants.
This would not be the first time that Carvajal has left Madrid. Back in 2012, he spent time with Bayern Leverkusen for a season, until Real added a buy-back clause to his contract and brought him back to Spain. A similar move could be placed on Carvajal this time around as the club has strong feelings for the young defender.
Chelsea need help on the backline, especially with John Terry getting older and the struggles of Ivanovic continuing. A player like Carvajal would add new life and vigor to the weakened defense.
