Done with your summer reading list? A batch of new books have just been released this fall and booklovers will be reading and talking about them in the next few months. Put these on your list of must-reads.
1. "Purity" by Jonathan Franzen, released Sept. 1. The female protagonist, Purity, a millennial who is behind on student loans and who doesn't know her father, comes across a man who's like a Julian Assange figure. Franzen is most noted for his best-selling books, "The Corrections" and "Freedom," and "Purity" is close to ranking next to these.
2. "Killing Reagan: The Violent Assault That Changed a Presidency" by Bill O'Reilly, released Sept 22. This book is part of the "Killing" franchise, two of which are already best-sellers. It explores how the attempt on Reagan's life has changed the health and mental stability of the American president. The book is already in talks for a TV adaptation, according to Deadline.
3. "The Heart Goes Last," by Margaret Atwood, to be released Sept. 29. Featuring another dystopian future, this is a story about a couple who participate in the Positron Project, where they alternately live in a suburb one time, and in prison the next time. This is Atwood's 15th novel to date.
4. "Career of Evil" by Robert Galbraith, to be released Oct. 20. It's no secret this book is from best-selling author J.K. Rowling, who has been using a pseudonym to write the Cormoran Strike book series. The sales of the book are already picking up on Amazon in the U.K. according to The Guardian. Cormoran Strike is also being adapted as a TV show via BBC, according to The Independent.
5. "Rogue Lawyer" by John Grisham to be released Oct. 20. The story features a "street lawyer" named Sebastian Rudd whose clients include a death row inmate and a lowly homeowner who accidentally fires on a member of the SWAT. Grisham's ability to sell hit thrillers have been proven more than once on the best-sellers list.
