Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein Has Lymphoma, 'Highly Curable'

Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Chief Executve Lloyd Blankfein announced on Tuesday that he has lymphoma, according to Reuters. He continued, saying that this form of the disease is "highly curable," and that he plans on working normally throughout treatment.

The 61-year-old will undergo chemotherapy over the next few months in New York while still leading the firm, according to the Goldman Sachs statement.

He does, however plan on reducing the amount of traveling he will be doing during the next few months of treatment, according to CNN Money.

"There are many people who are dealing with cancer every day. I draw on their experiences as I begin my own. I have a lot of energy and I'm anxious to begin the treatment. I appreciate your support and good wishes," Blankfein said in his statement.

Blankfein has been Chief Executive of Goldman Sachs for nine years, taking over as CEO of the highly successful firm in 2006, according to CNN Money. After the announcement, however, shares of Goldman Sachs fell almost three percent.

Blankfein's announcement comes a year after JPMorgan Chase and Co CEO Jamie Dimon announced he was undergoing treatment for throat cancer, also continuing to work as normal, according to Reuters.
