After two people were shot near Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island on Wednesday, police began a manhunt for the shooter who still remains at large, PIX 11 News reported.
Authorities said a man shot two people at 10 a.m. near the mall. The suspect, allegedly from Flushing, Queens, drove in a white SUV toward the mall after he opened fire at two victims. He is described as an Asian male in his 60's and was wearing a red shirt and brown suit jacket.
NBC New York reported that one of the victims died.
The mall has been placed on lockdown and issued a statement on their Facebook page.
"Per direction from Nassau County Police Department, Roosevelt Field is on lockdown and no shopper access is being permitted into the property doors at this time, due to an emergency off property in the nearby East Garden City. The mall has not been evacuated at this time. Stay tuned to Facebook and Twitter for updates," the post said.
All schools in the area have placed on "lock out," meaning no one will be allowed inside the building.
"This is terrifying. After what happened in Kenya, everyone is already on edge," said local resident Nancy Petrillo.
Surrounding streets have been closed off as police continue their manhunt.
