If you’re like me and still having some doubts about how good Derrick Rose will be when he returns this fall, maybe some comments from a fellow superstar can soften those doubts.
Kevin Durant recently did an interview with Comcast SportsNet Chicago and shared his opinion on Rose’s controversial decision. The 24-year old chose to sit out for all of the 2012-2013 season after he tore his ACL during a playoff game in the previous season.
“He’s been looking great. It was really good for him to take the whole year off," Durant, who work out with Rose this offseason told the network, told the network. "A lot of people criticized him for it and were really upset about him not playing, but it was the best thing for him. I can tell, because he looks better.”
Durant also knows how important Rose is to the Bulls and that although Coach Tom Thibodeau can get his team to excel defensively, they need Rose for the other side of the ball.
“Well he’s an MVP," Durant said speaking of the Bulls superstar who won the MVP award during the 2010-2011 regular season. "He’s a high-level player. If you lose that, of course you’re not going to be as good as you were before. But I love Coach Thibs and I love what he brings to the table. Their defense is one of the best I’ve ever seen. So that gets them by, but I think they need an extra push from the offense and that’s what D-Rose brings to the table. So explosive, so great, just a great person all around. I really enjoy watching him play. He is one of the few players I would go pay to see play. He is going to make them even better this year.”
Although fans continue to hear how good Rose is fairing as training camp and the preseason approach, the proof will be when he steps onto the court of the first preseason game on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Indiana Pacers.
Fans will really be looking to see how Rose and his ACL do when the Bulls tip off their regular season on Oct. 29 at the defending champion Miami Heat.
