Hugh Douglas Arrested: Says Rough Sex Reason Behind Girlfriend’s Bruises, Not Assault (SEE MUGSHOT)

Ex-NFL star and ESPN commentator Hugh Douglas was arrested for "choking and beating his girlfriend" in a Connecticut hotel room, the Daily Mail reports.

Douglas, who was fired from his job last month, told police that the marks on his girlfriend's neck is the result of rough sex, not assault. The 42-year-old was taken away in handcuffs on Sept. 22 after the woman contacted hotel security at the Marriot Hotel in downtown Hartford, Conn. and said she had been assaulted.

Reportedly his girlfriend said Douglas grabbed her by the neck and slammed her repeatedly against the wall. When security noticed red marks on her neck they called the police. Douglas has since been released on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 21.

In August Douglas - who played for the New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles - was let go by ESPN after Deadspin and The Big Lead broke the news that he had gotten into a "very nasty" confrontation with his co-host, Michael Smith, at a Florida bar.

According to reports, Smith was trying to keep an intoxicated Douglas from going on stage with the DJ at the House of Blues, causing the former NFL star to lash out. Sources said he began calling Smith racial slurs like "hose n****" and "Uncle Tom."

They said he also threatened to beat up Smith but onlookers rushed in between the two before a fight broke out.

Two weeks later, ESPN announced that they were letting Douglas go for using racial slurs and because of his wild behavior. Douglas confirmed the new on Twitter writing: "I am very disappointed to be leaving ESPN and will have more to say about this situation and my future at the appropriate time."
