Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
For months now, Star Wars fans have been wondering who legendary actor Max Von Sydow will be playing in J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." His character's code name was revealed to be "The Vicar" during production, but little else was known beyond that. Was he a villain? A fellow Jedi? Neither?
Now comes a rumor courtesy of Making Star Wars that Max Von Sydow plays a character name Lor San Tekka, who possesses crucial information that could help find the missing Luke Skywalker. Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron reportedly seeks out the elder Jakku native in order to find out where Luke is. If you've been following along with our rumor updates, you know that it is believed that Luke is in self-imposed exile throughout the majority of "The Force Awakens."
This is still unconfirmed at this point, but Making Star Wars Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward has been digging into this mystery for the better part of a year now. He's confident that this information is accurate, though he won't reveal anything else about the character with "The Force Awakens" just a few months away.
If true, this would add credence to the speculation that von Sydow plays a minor yet integral role in the newest "Star Wars" film. Although we'd all love to see his take on a Sith, I suppose we'll settle for a helpful villager.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will hit theaters on Dec. 18.
