Parma Standoff: Police Tase Crazed Man Breaking Windows in Ohio Apartment Complex

A 21-year-old man from Parma, Ohio was arrested Wednesday morning after a standoff with police.

Law enforcement officials responded to a call from a tenant in an apartment building on State Road and Hetzel Drive at about 5:30 a.m., who claimed that a man was screaming and shouting while breaking windows somewhere inside the building.

According to the Associated Press, the police came to the housing unit and were spotted by the man who was standing on the third-floor of the building. He announced that he was armed with a "Mac-10" machine pistol, and that they should show their hands. He also demanded that the police officers give him a phone while throwing items out of his window, creating a pile of trash outside.

Officials rushed residents in nearby apartments out of the building, Fox reported.

SWAT Team members and negotiators talked to the man through the window until the man refused to leave his apartment and ceased conversation with the negotiators. SWAT then managed to gain entry to the apartment, as the suspect ran into another room in the apartment and resisted arrest, AP reported.

Police officers used a taser during this arrest. The suspect was then rushed to Parma Hospital, as he had self-inflicted wounds, and underwent an mental evaluation.

During the standoff, law enforcement closed off State Road, moving traffic down a side street instead.

Officers said that he didn't have a weapon.

The Parma Police Department said that they expect to see criminal charges pressed against the man.
