The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus was officially released Thursday in Australia, and Lucy Kelly is ahead of the swarm of people since she sent a robot to hold her place in line. The robot, whose nickname is also Lucy, waited outside the Apple Store in Sydney since 5 a.m. on Sept. 23, scoring the position of fourth-in-line. Residents in Sydney are lucky, as because of the Time Zone difference, they are going to be the first people to get their new iPhone 6s devices.
This is the first time that someone has actually sent a robot to hold an actual persons place in line in the history of Apple launches, according to Yahoo News.
Lucy the Robot is composed of an iPad for the "head" where you can actually see Kelly while she operates the robot from her home and work via an app that helps her manage the movements and communication features for the robot. The iPad is connected to a Segway-style scooter that enables the robot to move around, maintain its place in line or make its way to a near-by tend to charge up for the night and stay protected from the elements.
Kelly's job, a media agency called Atomic 212, gave her permission to use their telepresence robot to hold her spot in line while she was able maintain her work and personal life schedule, reported Mirror.
"So my boss said 'Just take the robot down, you'll still be able to do your work, but you'll still be waiting in line," explained Kelly, reported Mashable Australia. "We use them for everything, just to show new technology. It is a cool demonstration of what the future of technology will be."
The robot has received positive feedback from other individuals waiting in line. Many people have taken selfies with Lucy the Robot. "Everyone thinks it is pretty cool, they were happy to let a robot go ahead," Kelly said.
