Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis is creating a buzz in the scouting community with his play on the field, according to Charlie Campbell of Walterfootball.com.
Davis could be moving up draft boards as the junior wide receiver, as he was ranked as the 17th best receiver for the 2017 NFL Draft, CBSSports.com reported. Davis first became a big name last season when he caught 78 passes for 1,408 yards with 15 touchdowns. The star receiver for the Broncos has picked up from last season and is likely going to improve on his numbers this season barring an injury. Davis already has 309 yards receiving yards with three touchdowns.
Davis wouldn't be the first big name receiver out of Western Michigan to go in the early rounds of the draft, as Miami Dolphins wide receiver Greg Jennings was drafted in the second round in 2006.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound junior receiver has impressed scouts with his route running, catching ability and speed. Head coach of Western Michigan P.J. Fleck is a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers' wide receiver coach, and it's likely that he has helped developed Davis into a player that can make it in the league.
Western Michigan has a huge challenge this weekend against last year's National Champions Ohio State. The Buckeyes will be ready to go this week after they squeaked out a tight win against Northern Illinois. Davis is likely to be heavily involved in the offense this week, as the Broncos will likely have to keep pace with Ohio State's offense.
