At least 25 people were killed, and dozens more wounded, on Thursday in Yemen in an ISIS bombing. The victims were praying in a mosque when an Islamic State suicide bomber targeted the building, according to Yahoo! News.
The bomb shook the Balili mosque on Thursday during the Eid al-Adha, Feast of the Sacrifice, an important Islamic holiday that is celebrated by Muslims all around the world. Shiites were targeted in this particular attack from ISIS, also known the Islamic State or ISIL. ISIS is a Sunni group who is fundamentally opposed to Shiites.
This area has been repeatedly rocked by terrorist attacks. UN numbers show that 5,000 people have been killed in Yemen since March. Two explosions hit the mosque Thursday, one from a suicide bomber and the other from a second bomber. The Islamic State has taken credit for the attack, according to The BBC. "The situation is very painful and blood is everywhere," one Yemen resident said.
Officials say the death toll will probably get higher as the situation is sorted out, according to UPI. This is the sixth attack that has happened at a mosque in the past three months. People have been fleeing the Middle East in droves in recent months as well, immigrating to Europe in order to escape the wars and terrorist attacks.
