Bill Nye, better known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, was injured during his most recent performance on Latin Night of "Dancing With the Stars," the 57-year-old TV personality and science wiz diagnosed with a partially torn ligament, CBS News reports.
On Instagram, Nye posted a photo of himself in the doctor's office with his partner, Tyne Stecklein, his injured leg propped up while he gave a thumbs-up and a smile to the camera, letting his fans know that he's doing alright despite his injury.
"Awaiting the doc's orders with Tyne. We plan to dance! Stand by," he wrote.
On Monday Sept. 23's episode, Stecklein and Nye performed a paso double routine, earning 17 out of the possible 30 judge's points, making the fan favorite and his partner the lowest-scoring of the night. Before the season began, Nye told CBS News that he was "extraordinarily nervous" to dance on live television, though he confirmed that he was "in it to win it."
Nye isn't the first to get injured during the 17 seasons of "Dancing With the Stars," of course, as injuries are fairly common in the dance competition. Last year, a high-energy routine afflicted Melissa Gilbert with whiplash and a mild concussion, while Olympian Misty May-Treanor had to leave the show after she tore her Achilles tendon during rehearsals.
E! Online reports that Nye may need surgery for his recent injury, and if he did, he wouldn't be the first contestant to go under the kinfe. May-Treanor also underwent surgery after tearing her tendon, and after he performed on the show, Gilles Marini had to have surgery on his shoulder.
If all goes well, Nye does plan to dance in the next round of the competition, even though his relatively low scores may not promise him to win.
