The Los Angeles Clippers have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, so if you are just signing on with the team now odds are you likely won't figure into the rotation. That is the case for Luc Mbah a Moute who has reportedly just signed a training camp deal with the Clippers and will be competing for a spot on the back end of their roster, according to Dan Woike of the Orange County Register.
The deal with Mbah a Moute is reportedly a make-good deal that offers no salary protection but gives him a chance to come into camp and compete for one of the final spots on the roster. Mbah a Moute had previously agreed to a deal with the Sacramento Kings this offseason, but they backed out of the deal after he failed his physical. The Clippers are clearly less concerned about whatever injury the Kings deemed he had.
The Clippers come into training camp with 14 guaranteed contracts which means there is one spot open unless of course a non-guaranteed player beats out a guaranteed player or there is a trade. Assuming all of the guys on guaranteed contracts make the team, it is very possible that Mbah a Moute will be competing with Chuck Hayes for that final roster spot. Both Hayes and Mbah a Moute are on deals with no salary protection and will cost the Clippers nothing if they get cut. so this will be a battle for that last spot.
Of the two players competing for that final spot, Mbah a Moute definitely has the most upside. The 29-year-old forward doesn't bring much to the table offensively, but he uses his length really well and is a plus player on the defensive side of the ball. In his five years with the Milwaukee Bucks Mbah a Moute was a lockdown perimeter defender, so if he can show he is healthy in Clippers training camp he would have to have the edge for that final spot.
In his seven-year NBA career Mbah a Moute has been with four teams and has career averages of 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game. For his career the 6-foot-8 forward has made 44 percent of his field goals and 30 percent of his threes.
