The Stanford Cardinal will head to Corvallis, Ore., where they will take on the Oregon State Beavers in a Pac-12 showdown. Both teams come into the game 2-1, but Stanford is already 1-0 in the conference, having beaten USC last week.
The Cardinal have won the past five meetings between these two teams and will look to extend that lead to six Friday night. Stanford is coming off an extremely emotional upset of USC, who many had chosen to win the conference, by a score of 41-31. Stanford is now on a two-game winning streak after a disappointing loss to Northwestern in their season opening game.
Stanford comes into this game ranked 21st in the nation and as heavy favorites, but the status of their quarterback Kevin Hogan is up in the air. Hogan injured his ankle in the game against USC and was able to finish the game, but he did not practice much this week and will likely be a game-time decision.
So far this season, Hogan has been excellent, completing 63 percent of his passes and throwing for 775 yards through three games. Hogan has also thrown five touchdowns and only one interception so far. Hogan's backup is sophomore Keller Chryst who has thrown one career pass and that came earlier this year.
Oregon State is also 2-1, but Stanford will be their toughest test yet. The Beavers were beat down by Michigan two weeks ago but were able to recover last week by defeating San Jose State by two touchdowns.
Oregon State starts a true freshman, Seth Collins, at quarterback but he is coming off a very good game against San Jose State, where he ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a touchdown through the air. Collins' passing numbers on the season aren't great, but he leads the team in rushing through three games.
Running back Storm Woods is also coming off a very good game where he ran for 151 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Woods only has 35 carries on the season, but expect him to be a bigger part of the game plan this week after a breakout game last week.
This series has truly been dominated recently by Stanford as they have outscored Oregon State 161-62 in the last five meetings. The Beavers will look to put an end to that Friday night at home.
