At a time when talking about sexuality was considered rude or taboo, sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson not only talked about the topic but they researched it first hand as well. Now the couple is the subject of a provocative new TV Series on Showtime "Masters of Sex," which premieres Sunday and stars actress Lizzy Caplan.
In a recent GQ interview, the actress and former "Mean Girls" star opened up about sexual openness and led by example by giving personal details about her own experiences.
"If you watch Masters of Sex, you will score chicks," she said. "This is everything your readers need to know. I know that the show will be equally relevant to men and women, if for no other reason: tits!"
Caplan plays a researcher studying human sexuality in the new series. As for what she's learned from working on the show, the actress confesses to getting a little bit of sexual education herself.
"They basically figured out that the female body is far better equipped for sex than the male body. Women can have multiple orgasms; men cannot. They're actually the sexual athletes, not the men."
According to E Online, the actress went on to discuss some of the double standards that still exist in relationships and sexuality.
"If a woman said to me, 'Hey missy, you look like ménage a trois material,' yes, I would find that flattering," she confessed in a series of questions on whether she'd be flattered or offended by relationship things. "If a man said that to me, I would be offended. It's a double standard."
Masters of Sex premieres this Sunday and will bring the historical couple's early work back to life and help a modern audience tackle some of its misgivings about sexual relationships and the absurdity that goes behind the science of making love.
