We love to dress our dogs up. So when Pope Francis comes to the U.S. for a visit, it's homage to His Holiness to dress up our dogs in papal attire. Instagram is full of the #popedogs, and there sure are a lot of them! Someone out there is sewing their little fingers to the bones to keep up with the demand.
And while Pope Francis is usually seen in more simple attire, wearing just a zucchetto (his head covering), according to Today, but a Mitre seems like just the right topping to take this attire to another level.
#Popedogs are exploding in popularity, Buzzfeed reported, and we can hardly believe the cuteness.
"Everyone loves cute puppies, and everyone loves Pope Francis," said John Scorr from Brooklyn, who's Puggle Giles is dressed in full papal regalia (minus the staff).
"In America, we like combining the things we love," said Scorr, according to BBC News. "Giles wanted to show his support for a more progressive pontiff. Also, I suspect the Holy Father himself would find it funny."
"The US have always been crazy bonkers for dressing up their dogs, and the Pope's outfits are crying out for some canine fashion pimping - it's a collision of awesome," said the Popedog Twitter account, established in 2013.
