Three people, including a sheriff's deputy, were injured in a knife-fight in Orange County, Calif. that resulted in the killing of one man who was armed with a blade.
Residents of Southern California suburb Laguna Niguel reported to KABC that the 200 block of Chandon burst into chaos around 7:30 p.m. Deputies responded to a call reporting that someone had been stabbed, and was lying motionless on the street, according to NBC Los Angeles.
"We just heard some police come in with their tires screeching and everything, then we heard a little bit of yelling after that, and then a whole mag go off of the bullets one after another non-stop," Yobani Salas, a local neighbor, told the news station.
The Orange County Sheriff's Department pronounced the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Connor Bishop Zion, dead after the gunfire ceased. The deputy was stabbed in both arms, while a man and woman were knifed multiple times and sustained non life-threatening injuries. All parties were rushed to the hospital following the event.
"The deputies responded to the location here for a call of unknown trouble," Lt. Jeff Hallock, a member of the sheriff's department, reported. "They also stated that there was a victim who had been stabbed lying in the street. Deputies arrived. At some point after their arrival, an officer-involved shooting resulted."
Residents of the neighborhood, usually a relatively quiet one, were shaken by the event. Neighbor Robert Fair told ABC Local that this type of violence never occurred in his area.
"There was a domestic dispute between his son and his mother, and then it led to some type of an escalation and there were multiple shots hear by the neighbors," Fair stated.
Officials said an extensive investigation would follow, but have not specified the suspect's relation to the victims, or what event sparked the violence.
