After being benched for Mike Glennon, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is reportedly seeking a trade. The latest batch of reports, however, suggest there isn't much of a market, if any, for the 25-year-old. Bucs coach Greg Schiano, meanwhile, is the latest coach to be linked to the Texas Longhorn coaching job.
The Bucs already said they'd be willing to trade Freeman for the right offer. Now, according to NFL.com, Freeman also wants a trade. The chances of it happening look slim - no teams appear interested.
Two teams have already made known their lack of interest in Freeman. Jacksonville, according to the Associated Press, has "zero interest" in trading for Freeman; Cleveland is also uninterested in Freeman, Pro Football Talk reported.
Minnesota was considered a possibility by NFL.com, but the team seems unlikely to sign Freeman with Matt Cassel as a backup to Christian Ponder.
Barring injury, Freeman's best chance of landing in another city is as a backup - but even that's unlikely, according to Pro Football Talk, because of Freeman's hefty contract and the unlikelihood of him taking a pay cut.
"The biggest impediment remains Freeman's contract," Mike Florio of PFT wrote on Wednesday. "Per a league source, Freeman won't be inclined to reduce his remaining base salary or sign an extension as part of a trade. With this week's game check already earned, he's due to receive $6.44 million from Week Five through Week 17."
His reputation for not being a hard worker is yet another deterrent that's unlikely to move him to another team before the Oct. 29 trade deadline.
Like Freeman, Schiano may not be in Tampa for long either - whether the team's doing or his own. Schiano is the latest name to be linked to the Texas Longhorn coaching vacancy, TheVictoryFormation.com reports, but the veracity of the rumor's source is uncertain.
