Veteran defenseman Mark Fraser's PTO tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs seems to have come to an end, but reports indicate the NHL blueliner won't be out of work for long. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reported on Monday that Fraser has been released from his tryout by the Leafs, indicating that it was likely Fraser had already "found work elsewhere." Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet tweeted shortly thereafter that that work seems to be with the Ottawa Senators.
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun added that the Sens had created a roster spot, potentially for Fraser, by sending Mikael Wikstrand back to Sweden.
Fraser, 28, has long been something of a favorite for new Toronto GM Lou Lamoriello. Lamoriello selected him in the third-round of the 2005 NHL Draft while he was with the New Jersey Devils and re-signed him to play for the ailing Devs last season.
Fraser was, per Johnston, the last remaining PTO in Leafs training camp after the team released Curtis Glencross and Devin Setoguchi and signed Brad Boyes was signed to a one-year deal. He had spent various portions of three other seasons with Toronto.
A veteran of 219-career NHL games, Fraser has 22 career points and 302-penalty minutes to his name in time spent as a Devil, Maple Leaf and Edmonton Oiler.
