Seven-Foot Python Descends from Chinese Family's Ceiling Rafters

Most of us have fears of the creepy, slithering snakes. The Li family, of Guangdong, southern China, is no different.

On Sept. 24, the Li family were all at home when a huge seven-foot python decided to say hello to the family by descending down from their ceiling rafters in their son's bedroom. The ceiling had begun to collapse, which is believed to have brought the snake down from its hiding spot, reported Colorado News Day.

The Li family had their ceiling redone in April and wondered if that was how the snake got into their home. However, two other pythons were caught over the last few days, it has been suggested that the pythons are being illegally raised in the area. They are often used in exotic pet trade, which is the practice of importing and exporting wild animals. Also, their skin is often removed and then used to make products.

Southeast Asia is where these large pythons call home. They spend most of their time within the jungles and grassy marshes, according to National Geographic. The python weighed 22 pounds, and was seven feet long, however, they can grow to be up to 200 pounds and as long as 23 feet.

Luckily, the Li's father was able to get in touch with a local snake handler and made arrangements to get the snake detained. However, the forestry department wasn't able to come collect the python right away.

The python made its home in a plastic bag for the next two days until it could be picked up and released back into the wild where it belonged, according to Daily Mail.
