The fact that Leonardo DiCaprio still doesn't have an Academy Award has become a long-running joke on the Internet, but his upcoming performance in "The Revenant" may put all that to an end. We know films like "Sicario," "The Martian" and "Spotlight" are drumming up all sorts of Oscar buzz at the moment. But "The Revenant," which is due out on Christmas, is sure to at least match, if not exceed, all that hype.
"The Revenant" comes from Oscar-winning "Birdman" director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and the production was so intense that DiCaprio actually made himself vomit while shooting. In the film, there is a scene where his character is forced to eat a wild bison's liver in order to survive. The only problem is that DiCaprio is a vegetarian. This led to...complications.
"He had to eat the liver, I think he threw it up afterward...he was so into it. It made me really appreciate the exten to which he'll go to make things right," Yahoo Movies reported.
DiCaprio is not known as a Method actor in the vein of Daniel Day Lewis, but he certainly takes his profession incredibly seriously. The fact that he was willing to scarf down a real liver, despite being a vegetarian, deserves a bit of praise. We'd like to think it will make one hell of a realistic scene.
"The Revenant" will focus on Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), who is injured in a bear attack and robbed by his companion (Tom Hardy) and left for dead. Against the elements and the odds, he must survive so that he can seek vengeance against the men that wronged him. If you don't think that sounds intense, just watch the trailer below.
Will this be the film that finally nabs Leo his elusive Oscar? Maybe. We'll find out on December 25.
